The tab you start it on
activeTabChrome only lets an extension record a tab after you click its icon, or press its shortcut (⌥⇧R), on that tab. The access covers that one tab, from that click, and nothing else.
Chrome extension · No bot in the room
Lynkk records Google Meet, Zoom and Teams from your own Chrome tab. Nothing joins the call, nobody has to admit a guest, and the participant list stays as it was.
Google Meet, Zoom in the browser, Microsoft Teams · Audio only · Works on the Free plan
DanaSorry, who is Notetaker? Is that one of yours?
Four people on the call, four tiles in the grid.
What the room sees
No guest to admit, no extra name in the participant list, no tile in the grid. Lynkk records from your own tab, so the people on the call see the same meeting they would have seen anyway.
Some calls are fine with a notetaker in the list and some are not. Both ways end in the same Lynkk note, so you can pick per call.

Two channels
Press Record and Lynkk captures the sound of that one tab and your microphone on two separate channels. That is how the transcript knows which side is you.
Thanks for making time. Can we start with the pilot?
Yes. We can do forty seats the week of the sixth.
That works if the security review closes first.
Then I will send the pilot plan by Friday.
The tab's sound is played back to you while Lynkk records it, so the call sounds the same.
The sound of one tab and your mic. Your screen, your camera and your other tabs are never captured.
Go on mute and the capsule says "you are muted", so you know your side has gone quiet.
Until the mic is allowed, Lynkk can record the others but not you, and the capsule says "Lynkk cannot hear you".
In your tab
It is there for the whole call. It shows the clock while it records, takes a mark when something matters, and tells you when the note is saved. There are no settings in it; those live on lynkk.ai.
Use Stop and save in the toolbar popup from any tab, or press ⌥⇧R. Closing the tab stops it too.
The recording stays on your machine and uploads the next time you record in that browser.
On Google Meet with captions on, the panel shows the last lines with names. They are not uploaded, and the recording does not depend on them.
Quiet is not secret
When you install it, Lynkk opens one page. It says what the extension reads, asks for your microphone, and asks you to tell the people on a call that you are recording it.
Recordings are uploaded over HTTPS to your own Lynkk account, where they are transcribed and summarised. They are not sold and not used for advertising.
Permissions
An extension declares what it needs in one file, and Chrome holds it to that list. This is the whole of Lynkk's, and what each line is for.
The list from the extension's manifest, the file Chrome checks. The highlighted line is the one you are reading about.
Not on the list
activeTabChrome only lets an extension record a tab after you click its icon, or press its shortcut (⌥⇧R), on that tab. The access covers that one tab, from that click, and nothing else.
tabCaptureThis is how it hears the other people on the call. It starts when you press Record and ends when you stop it or close the tab.
offscreenA hidden page holds the recording so it survives a long call. It opens when a recording starts and closes as soon as it is done.
storageWhether a recording is running, when it started, the moments you marked, your account email, and that you agreed on install. No page content.
cookiesIt reads your lynkk.ai session and no other cookie. That value is only ever sent to Lynkk.
alarmsKeeps the recording time on the toolbar icon up to date while a call runs.
notificationsTells you when a recording has finished uploading, or is being saved because you closed its tab. Only ever about your own recordings.
meet · zoom · teamsGoogle Meet, Zoom's web client, and Teams on teams.microsoft.com and teams.live.com. There it notices a call and shows the capsule. It also notices when the page turns on the microphone, which is how it tells a live call from a tab sitting on a meeting link.
lynkk.aiWhere it reads your session, sends the recording, and tells your settings page that the extension is installed.
No other site is accessed. Everything it runs ships inside the extension; it downloads no code.
How it works
There is no separate login. The extension uses the account you are signed into on lynkk.ai, and signing out there signs it out here.
01
Add Lynkk from the Chrome Web Store. A page opens once, says what it reads, and asks for your microphone.
02
The first time on a tab, Chrome needs one click on the Lynkk icon in the toolbar, and that click starts recording. After that, Record in the capsule works for as long as the tab is open.
03
The recording uploads to your account and comes back as a note like any other: transcript with speakers, the Meeting Brief with decisions and action items, and tasks.
In Chrome, and in Edge, Brave and Arc, which install from the Chrome Web Store. Not Firefox or Safari.
Questions
The short answers. The rest is in the help center.
Nothing joins the call and nothing appears in the participant list, so they will know if you tell them. Please do. The page Lynkk opens when you install it asks you to tell the people on a call that you are recording it.
No. It records audio only: the sound of the one tab the call is in, and your microphone. Your screen, your camera and your other tabs are never captured.
Google Meet, Zoom in the browser (the web client) and Microsoft Teams on teams.microsoft.com and teams.live.com. It runs in Chrome and in Chromium browsers that install from the Chrome Web Store, such as Edge, Brave and Arc. Firefox and Safari cannot capture a tab's audio, so it does not work there.
No. It notices the call and shows Record, and nothing is captured until you press it. The first time on a tab, Chrome needs one click on the Lynkk icon in the toolbar, and that click starts the recording. ⌥⇧R (Alt+Shift+R) starts or stops it too.
Your microphone and the tab are recorded on two separate channels, so your side is kept apart from everyone else's. Your lines are labelled You, and the other people get the usual speaker labels, such as Speaker A and Speaker B. Until you allow the microphone, Lynkk can record the others but not you.
No. When the upload finishes, the capsule says Saved to Lynkk and offers Open the note, which takes you to the note on lynkk.ai: transcript, Meeting Brief and tasks.
No. Recording, transcription and the summary work on the Free plan. If you are on Pro, the note gets everything Pro adds, such as Ask Lynkk, Summary Shapes and per-note chat, the same as any other recording.
Chrome extension
Add Lynkk to Chrome, allow the mic once, and press Record when the call starts. Nobody has to let anything in.
